Early morning in winter its cold and the rain has swelled the Derwent to its fullest bursting through the horseshoe weir. The mist rises and the empty East Mill looms majestically waiting just waiting to be brought back to life.

Walking along one early spring day in the medieval royal park of Shining Cliff Woods in the Derwent Valley I imagined painting such a scene Id make it look as magical as it felt that day but it seems I was not the only one who felt this way.

The weekend after the referendum on the UK leaving the European Union. I took myself to my favourite place Matlock Bath, and stared at Lily pads it was a good feeling, I wasn't the only artist there either as I looked around there was another artist quietly painting by the river like nothing had ever happened. Thank god for beauty.

Wild Garlic Matlock Bath

Just before the leaves on the trees are fully formed there is a carpet of fragrant wild garlic along the banks of the Derwent in Matlock Bath, to me its a heavenly scent and means that soon we will all be basking in the sun once again.

News for Autumn

Hello I have just got back from my holidays taking much needed time off. I have been spending the time travelling and photographing some of the UK’s most wonderful cities including York, Oxford and London. Whether any of these make it to canvas only time will tell! Autumn sees me dive back into things with two demos for regional art groups an ink workshop and preparations for October exhibitions more on those below.

Festival Time

September is art festival season and I am pleased to say that I will be participating in two the first is New Mills Festival where I am part of the towns arts trail along with 66 other selected artists my work will be on display in the window of Gioia Mia Café. The other festival is the inaugural Duffield Arts Festival 17th & 18th September £3 per day or £5 for both, under 16's FREE Celebrating Duffield's creative community with a program of activity and performances at various locations around the village. Views from the Derwent Valley Cromford Mill Oct 23 - Nov 3

This is an exhibition I have been working towards for two years I have spent a lot of time researching this wonderful world heritage site from top to bottom and this has resulted in twenty-two large scale paintings that pick out some of the key sites along the route. There is an illustrated talk that has been organized in conjunction with the Mill and a world heritage specialist it would be lovely if you could come along but you will need to book in advance details below:

Summer

We all need to refuel and stock up on inspiration and that is what I am currently doing so not much going on in the studio but plenty going on as regards research and information gathering.

Of course the family are blissfully unaware and are being bribed with ice creams etc...

Its fun and its nice to follow maps and see where we end up.
